Ken Woodman
Cutter and Tailor
Cutting and Tailoring came to me. I had been an Architect for many years and ran my own architectural practice. I had worn many formal office clothes and suits but never really been happy with the choice and opportunity provided in Australia. Surely, I could do better, I though, and thus commenced a fashion course and fell in love with tailoring. It has similar attributes to architecture with client interaction, design, material selection, construction, service and delivery of a quality product.
I went on to study under the Savile Row trained tailor, Rory Duffy, working out of Monaghan, Ireland. I learnt the authentic traditional trade of cutting and tailoring directly from this skilled craftsman.
I am drawn to the formal structured style of English tailoring while also admiring the softer casual Italian look. The artisan method of hand-crafting garments is very important to me. Crafting a pattern that encapsulates a body, feeling the fabric under my hands as it is cut, shaping it with the needle and the iron, finishing buttonholes by hand, adding some individual quirkiness, embracing the perfection of imperfections, these are the things that I love.
